REUNION - final reminders

Okay ~ this is the week!  :)

Final reminders about this weekend:

The park is one hour behind almost all of us.  In the past we've always kept everything on 'our time' so we'll do the same this year.  All posted meal times are Indy/Louisville time.  We'll set the microwave clock to Indy/Louisville time too.  Just keep that in mind when you are planning to go to HW, or a show, etc. or you may show up an hour early.

Cabin assignments will be posted on the doors of the dining hall and inside by the sign up sheets.  Maybe I'll put one out at the pavilion too.  For the most part, people are where they were last year, with a couple changes.  It's hard making sure there are enough low bunks for all the kiddos we have which is what I've been working on with getting people in the right cabins.  And, as you know, feel free to move amongst yourselves - this is just to ensure that everyone has a starting point and that there is space for everyone.

Please sign up to help with a meal or clean up and keep all areas clean in between.  Everyone is responsible for their own dishes at lunchtime.  We have 'reunion' utensils that I think are marked with blue painter's tape.  If you use one of these, please make sure that it makes it back to the right spot since these belong to the reunion.

We are still in need for a volunteer from the N and the S to stay and help with cleanup.  This person must be able to walk the entire grounds with the rangers to ensure that everything has been cleaned up.  Also, the North person takes back any 'lost' items thought to belong to North families and the South person does the same for the South.  We need someone from the middle generation or the next one down.  Please let Deni or I know.

The one thing about our reunion that I love is little things that people do to make it special.  Many people have their own way of making the reunion memorable for others.  A few that come to mind are Bob P's popcorn and Mike & Joe playing music, Jeanne making the water & kool-aid coolers of refreshments, the many girls who organize games at dusk, the various cousins who have organized crafts, and those certain people's homemage goodies from the snack table that you crave all year long and my kids have talked all year about superman being at our reunion last year!  What is yours?  Do you have one?  Why not start one this year?  Or use this year to review, reflect and consider - what's missing that you could do next year to create your own special 'mark' for our reunion?

See everyone this weekend!

Love,

Michele

Reunion Food

Hi all ~

Deni is getting ready to send out food lists and I will be doing the same shortly.  We met last night and discussed the lists, change in menu and quantities.

I have only received a handful of emails from people with their "rsvp" so that we know how much food to plan for.  If you have emailed me - I have it.  If you haven't emailed me, please do so when you read this email.  It greatly helps us to plan for food quantities (and I'll get you a cabin assignment).  In the past there has been some concern expressed from some folks about leftovers (or not enough if that was the case).  We do the best we can - I'd strongly encourage you to take ownership over your meal and do what you think is best.  If what you bring doesn't get used or eaten, then just take it home with you.  I assure you, no food gets 'wasted'.  :)

It appears from early emails that we may have less people from the South and more from the North, so 'suggested' quantities have been adjusted accordingly.  They will be different from last year's.  We'll try to get a better estimate of the quantity of people we will have as soon as we hear back from more people.

If you haven't sent Deni your check yet (which many haven't) please also get that in the mail to her this week.

I just spend last week at McCormicks with Chris's 'every 3-year reunion'.  Aside from having no hot water in the showerhouse for 3 days, it got me really excited for our reunion!!

See everyone soon!!
Love,
Michele

More info - Check address, Holiday World, Campsites, Nature Center, Belongings

DENISE ELLNOR
102 PENSIVE RD
CLARKSVILLE, IN 47129
Cost is $25 per adult (over 18) or $50 per family (which includes spouses & kids under 18)
Each guest is $25 (no age limit)

If those going to Holiday World want to let me know what day you are planning to go I will put everyone in touch with each other to coordinate group ticket discounts.  They need to be purchased 24 hours in advance for the best rate.

Also, Barb & Dan have two extra sites in the campground if anyone is interested, you can let them know or me and I will pass along.

I called & found out that the nature center is now located in the bottom of the rec hall.  Because of this, I strongly recommend that you don't leave your stuff lying around the facility.  I don't anticipate it will be a huge deal considering there really never seemed to be a lot of traffic there anyway, but it is just something to be mindful of - that and the possible increase in vehicle traffic.

Make sure all of your belongings are labeled, including food and coolers and this year we can all make an extra effort to look after each other's things.

Let me know if I'm forgetting anything.  If you need access to anything or any prior correspondence, it is on the website holdawayfamilyreunion.blogspot.com

See everyone soon!
Love,
Michele

Email sent 12/22/09

Hi all ~ a couple people recently asked about dates for next year's reunion, so I'm sending a reminder to everyone so you can be sure to request your vacation days appropriately for next year!! :) Would love to see EVERYONE there.

Funny, I was just at church tonight helping with pictures for our pictorial directory and was talking to a mom of someone I went to school with (sorry grandmother!). And in talking about me planning a 20-year reunion for our grade school class we got on the topic of me planning our family reunion. She wanted to hear all about it and was so amazed at the length of time we'd done it and thought all of our traditions were so special. It reminded me of what a special family we have and how blessed we all are to have each other in our lives! Merry Christmas everyone!

The 40th annual
Holdaway Family Reunion
will be held at
Lincoln State Park
in Dale, Indiana
July 29th - August 1st
