Email sent 12/22/09

Hi all ~ a couple people recently asked about dates for next year's reunion, so I'm sending a reminder to everyone so you can be sure to request your vacation days appropriately for next year!! :) Would love to see EVERYONE there.

Funny, I was just at church tonight helping with pictures for our pictorial directory and was talking to a mom of someone I went to school with (sorry grandmother!). And in talking about me planning a 20-year reunion for our grade school class we got on the topic of me planning our family reunion. She wanted to hear all about it and was so amazed at the length of time we'd done it and thought all of our traditions were so special. It reminded me of what a special family we have and how blessed we all are to have each other in our lives! Merry Christmas everyone!

The 40th annual
Holdaway Family Reunion

Johnny Riley's band / Holy Spirit Festival

Hi All, If you want to spend a nice evening outside listening to a group of good High School Musicians, go to the Holy Spirit Festival this Thursday Night at 7:00. Johnny's group (Arisan Maru) will be playing from 7 to 11. They are good and it is fun. See you there. Ray.

The Arisan Maru was the name of the ship the Father Scecina died on in World War II. Look it up on the Internet. It is an interesting story. There is also an interesting book, The Sinking of the Arisan Maru, which is good reading. It was written by thee Son of one of the 8 survivors out of over 1700 American military.

FAMILY REUNION - update

Are you all getting super excited for the reunion?  Here is some more information for the big weekend:

FOOD
The food lists have been emailed out to the food coordinators (Martha Ann, Alice, Wanda, Karen, Kelly, Danny R., Danny M.).  They will help distribute the food responsibilities among their families.

PAYMENT
Please mail your reunion payment to Denise if you haven't already: 102 Pensive Rd., Clarksville, IN 47129.  Cost is $25 per person over 18 & per each guest.  Subtract $5 per adult if mailing your payment by July 13th.

CABINS
If you haven't emailed me yet to 'reserve' a cabin for your family, please do so.  This is just to ensure that we save enough cabins for 'family' cabins.  Cabins sleep 10 people.

ACTIVITIES
We will plan to play softball and volleyball (email me if you can bring a net, otherwise we'll look at buying one).  There will be music in the rec hall Saturday night.  We will also have crafts for the kids to do.

SIGN-UPS
Please be sure to sign-up for a weekend chore when you arrive.  If there are no lines left to sign up, please chose another task to do.  We will need more people to help with the various clean-ups at Versailles as we have double the space.

Also - if you are on a clean-up crew, please make sure you stay until the entire team is done cleaning up.

Those staying in cabins are responsible for cleaning them.  This does not count as a 'chore' for the weekend.

CHECK-OUT
When making your plans for the reunion, please factor in clean-up time Sunday as part of your plans.  This place is big and it will take the effort of everyone to help clean up.

ADDITIONAL INFO
Remember to keep up-to-date with the latest information on the Holdaway website:  holdawayfamilyreunion.blogspot.com.  You should be able to find all information here, but if there is something not on there let me know and I will get it added.  Also be sure to check frequently for family updates and events.
**If you would like to receive an update whenever the website is updated, just let me know.

EMAIL: 2009 HOLDAWAY FAMILY REUNION July 23-July 26th

Hello everyone!!

LETTER/LOCATION/DETAILS

Attached is the 2009 reunion letter with detail regarding our rapidly approaching reunion. Don't forget - we are at a new location this year ~ Versailles State Park.

Additional information can be found at the following websites:

Family website: http://holdawayfamilyreunion.blogspot.com

Versailles information: http://holdawayfamilyreunion.blogspot.com/search/label/Versailles%20info

LODGING

We will have family cabins & women/men cabins. If you want to reserve a 'family' cabin, please send me the list of people who will share a cabin. Cabins sleep 10, more if you want to bring an air mattress. There is additional cabin information at the website listed above. There are not enough for each household to have their own cabin, so please get with others and make a group of 8-10 who will share a cabin.

CONTACT INFORMATION

I have also attached a document with family addresses. Please review your family address to ensure accuracy. If you are over 18 ~ you should have your own label, so if you're still listed under your parents, please let me know. Please email me with any changes and I will send out a revised list later this summer.

If you notice anyone missing from the email list, please let me know. Also, if I have an email listed for you that you would like to have removed from my list, let me know that as well.

Hope everyone has made arrangements to come this year!! It should be a blast. There is tons to do and explore at the new park, so bring walking shoes, swim suits, baseball mits, bikes etc. and we'll have so much fun!!

As always, please email me with any questions!

Love,

Michele

VERSAILLES STATE PARK

Versailles, Indiana

July 23rd - July 26th

Thursday - Sunday

2009 Frequently Asked Questions

1) What are the reunion dates?
Thursday, July 23rd to Sunday July 26th

2) What time is check-in?
3pm on Thursday

Versailles Cabins

There are 11 cabins with the following features:

*cabins are one large room
*most have a balcony/porch/deck with gorgeous views
*10 single beds per cabin
*no bunked beds
*bathrooms are not in cabins
*overhead lights
*beds are movable, so could be pushed together
*if you wanted to sleep more than 10, air mattresses would fit in addition to the 10 beds
*there are curtains on the windows

Here is what we'd recommend:

a) bring a small lamp per cabin to avoid having to turn on overhead lights when others are sleeping (or just use a flashlight)

b) bring your own bedding ~ only a mattress is provided

c) get a group of 10 people together that will share a cabin and email that to Michele so that we can assign cabins to groups
*we can have family-style cabins and
*we will have men's/women's cabins - you can make your own groups
*if you just want to be assigned to a women's / men's cabin - just let me know (similar to McCormick's)

d) there isn't much privacy, so if you are taking a cabin for your family, you might consider bringing some kind of contraption for making some area for changing, etc. I've thought we might bring a tent to set up inside as a 'changing' area.

e) we cannot drive up to the cabins, so pack light and if you can bring something that will help you carry your belongings to the cabin.
